Traineeships

Understanding Traineeships

A traineeship provides a combination of on-the-job training and formal education, allowing trainees to gain practical experience while studying towards a nationally recognised qualification.

  • Childcare traineeships generally last between 18 and 36 months, depending on the level of qualification being pursued and the trainee's prior experience and educational background.

  • Trainees work in a childcare setting where they gain practical experience under the guidance of Wave Learning's experienced educators. They may be involved in activities such as planning and implementing educational programs, caring for children, and maintaining a safe and nurturing environment.

  • In addition to on-the-job training, trainees are required to complete formal coursework and assessments. Coursework and assessments cover theoretical aspects of early childhood education and care, including child development, health and safety, and educational strategies.

  • Childcare trainees are paid for the hours they work, and the wage rate may vary depending on the employer, location, and level of qualification.

  • Throughout their traineeship, students receive guidance and support from experienced mentors and supervisors, who help them develop their skills and knowledge in the childcare industry.
